A substitute teacher in Ohio was brought to tears and apologized for having sex with high school students in nearby parking lots.
24-year-old Madeline Marx broke down in tears in court on Thursday and apologized for having sex with two 11th-grade students in parking lots in 2017. Marx pleaded guilty in March to two counts of sexual battery for having inappropriate sexual relationships with the underage students while she was working at Kettering Fairmont High School.
Marx was pulled out of class and arrested by police last November.
“I cannot express how sorry I am,” she tearfully said in court during her sentencing hearing. “I just can’t express the remorse that I have.”
The former substitute teacher will reportedly be on probation for five years, according to PEOPLE. She will also wear the title of a Tier III sex offender and, under Ohio law, will be required to register her address every three months for the rest of her life. She also is forced to undergo sex offender counseling and will lose her teaching license. Marx also is banned from entering school property. The harsh sentence comes in place of the six years in prison she was facing.
Her arrest came after a 16-year-old 11th-grade boy admitted to having sex with Marx in the parking lot of a Big Lots store on or about July 19. Another 16-year-old 11th-grade boy told police that he had sex with her on or about Sept. 21 inside the parking lot of an apartment complex.
The police report says on Nov. 8. Marx confessed to having sex with the first student and sending him nude images. She also confessed to having intercourse with the second student.
