The former producer recently spoke to TMZ and weighed in on the tragedy. Knight said that he strongly believes Nipsey’s loyalty to his neighborhood could have contributed to his shooting death.

“A lot of artists like Nipsey have the same problem that I had. We are too loyal to our neighborhood,” The former music executive says even when you have the money to leave, you want to stay in your good because “when you go around Hollywood it’s all watered down.”

Knight also said that he loved to go back to his block to “get chili cheese fries and strawberries and talk to my lil homies.” However, “when you do that you need those homies to “help you survive.” Knight even suggested that those closest to Nipsey could have done more to ensure his safety.

As we reported, Nipsey was shot by a man named Eric Holder. He reportedly engaged in a “tense” conversation with Nipsey, where he called Holder a snitch. Holder then allegedly left, grabbed a weapon and returned for the fatal shooting. Nipsey died from gun shot wounds to his head and torso.

Holder was been arrested and charged with murder.
