A male suspect has been apprehended after he apparently pushed or threw a five-year-old boy off of a third-floor balcony inside the Mall of America early Friday.
CBS Minnesota reports that a witness heard a woman screaming that someone threw her child off from the third floor at the southeast corner of the Mall of American in Minnesota. Emergency crews immediately arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the victim then transported him to the Children’s Hospital. Another witness told police that 24-year-old Emmanual Aranda attempted to flee the scene but was caught near a light rail station.
Police said that Aranda and the victim are not related and called the crime an “isolated incident”.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Officer and officers are working with the Mall of America officials to search through surveillance footage to determine a motive. Aranda was charged with attempted homicide.

The victim’s identity was not released to the public due to his age. A statement was released by the MOA, sending their prayers to the boy and his family.
“This was a senseless act and words cannot truly express our profound shock and sadness. Our immediate and only concern is for the wellbeing of the family and the child, as well as for any individuals who may have witnessed the incident. We have counseling services available for anyone who may need assistance. We know that this is a concerning event for all of us. As the Bloomington Police Department continues to investigate how and why this isolated incident happened, we will provide our full cooperation.”
