Suspect Identified After 1,000 Guns Found In Bel-Air Mansion

A man has been identified in the case of 1000 guns and rounds of ammunition being found in a Bel Air home!

A 57-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after authorities seized more than 1000 guns in his Bel Air mansion.

The man who is being identified as Girard Saenz was at home at the time authorities arrived following an anonymous tip about a person manufacturing and selling guns. Saenz was arrested on suspicion of violating California’s law regarding assault weapons and .50-caliber Browning machine guns.

Authorities described the property as a hoarder’s paradise filled with fully automatic guns, rifles, shotguns, assault weapons, and pistols.

In California, it is not Illegal to have that amount of guns in your home, however, Saenz was selling these items illegally. The law also prohibits the manufacture, distribution, transportation, importation, and sale of any assault rifle or .50-caliber weapon, except in specific circumstances.

Steve Cooley, a former Los Angeles County district attorney said;

“There is nothing in itself wrong with having a thousand guns. It all depends on whether they comply with California and federal laws.”

This is not the first time Saenz has had a runin with the law in regards to fireamrs. He was arrested in his Malibu home back in 2017 on suspicion of brandishing a firearm.

Saenz was released from custody shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday after posting $50,000 bond.
