A Taco Bell employee was terminated from his job after a viral video showed him refusing to serve a deaf customer at a drive-thru.
According to ABC 11, Brandon Burch wanted to order through the drive-thru of a local Taco Bell and used the app to pay for his order. When he reached the order window he received a different response from an employee. In the video, the employee tells Burch he can’t fulfill his request and closes the window in his face.
The footage was captured by Brandon’s girlfriend and his mother uploaded the video on her Facebook page.
“He’s had to work extra hard, harder than everyone else to prove himself, that’s he’s smart and that he can do everything. So, just something easy as going through a drive-thru to get food and they’re like no, he just didn’t understand.”
While Brandon’s girlfriend was recording the encounter, the employee also threatened to call the authorities,
“Do you want me to call the police? Because we can’t take it, and you’re also not allowed to record me.”
The police arrived at the location but they told the employee that Brandon had the right to order his food and even offered to pay for his order.
Taco Bell said in a statement that the employee has been terminated and that its staff will be trained in customer service.
