Teacher Placed On Leave After Telling Students He Would Be The Best School Shooter

A Florida high school teacher is currently on administrative leave after telling his student that he would be the “best school shooter.”

CNN reports the shocking comment occurred during a lockdown drill at Lakeland Senior High School on August 16. One student told Polk County police that the teacher told his students that he would plant explosives then “fire a couple of rounds and wait for everyone to hide, then press a button and boom — everyone would die.” Another student stated that the teacher also said: “He would put a bomb in the corner and put nails in it for shrapnel.”

Detective Justin Conatser filed a risk protection order against the teacher and said he was a former Marine before his job as an educator.

“Being a former Marine he should be looked at as the person who will protect the students, and not make them question whether their teacher is looking to harm them,”

The teacher’s home was searched by Polk County police but no weapons have been found. The Polk County School District said in a statement that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave.

Superintendent Jacqueline M.Byrd says the district is cooperating with police during the investigation.

Every day, Polk County Public Schools is entrusted with the lives of more than 105,000 precious children.  As superintendent, I will do everything I can to protect every single one of them,” Byrd said. “Parents and students should be assured that we take any potential threat against our students and schools seriously. Student safety is — and always will be — paramount within our school district.”

The teacher is due in court on August 30 for a final risk protection order.
