An Iowa high school teacher resigned Friday after he made a disturbing comment about using a sniper rifle on teen climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
The New York Post reports Waterloo West High School chemistry teacher Matt Baish posted the comment on Facebook last week after a former student asked who was attending Thunberg’s rally in Iowa City. Baish said in the comment that he was not participating in the event because he didn’t “have his sniper rifle”. Baish’s comment caused outrage among parents due to his position at the high school and he was placed on administrative leave earlier this week.
“The nature of the content shared rose to the level of putting this employee on administrative leave pending an investigation,”
A Waterloo School District rep confirmed Baish’s resignation in a statement and said the school is working on finding a replacement to continue classroom instruction.
“West High School and the District are working to ensure classroom instruction continues for courses impacted by the departure,”
The Facebook post is currently being investigated by police.
