A Texas teen was arrested for spitting into a bottle of Arizona Tea and placing it back on a grocery store shelf earlier this week.
According to the New York Post, authorities arrived at the Albertsons Market in Odessa and viewed surveillance footage of the teen grabbing the drink, drinking it and then placing it back onto the shelf. The boy told the police and the store’s asset protection manager about the nasty deed and said he only returned the drink because it tasted “gross.” Police charged the teen with tampering with a consumer product, a second-degree felony.
A statement was released by the Albertsons Market after the incident, saying that the company’s main priority is the safety of its customers:
“The product tampering on Monday was the first incident reported in our company and came with second-degree felony charges against the juvenile accused of this crime,”
United Family’s communications and community engagement manager Nancy Sharp added that customers should check for safety seals before purchasing a product.
The teen is currently being held at the Ector County Youth Center and faces a felony charge if convicted for the crime.
