Teen Believes Every Day Is June 11 Because Her Memory ‘Resets’ Every Two Hours
An Illinois teenager wakes up every day thinking it’s June 11 because her memory resets every two hours.
“I have a calendar on my door and I look and it’s September and I’m like ‘Whoa!’” 16-year-old Riley Horner told WQAD.
“People don’t understand — it’s like a movie.”
Horner’s ordeal started on June 11 after she was accidentally kicked in the head at a dance by someone who was crowd-surfing.
Doctors initially said Riley had a concussion and sent her home on crutches.
“They tell us there’s nothing medically wrong,” her mother, Sarah said. “They can’t see anything. You can’t see a concussion though on an MRI or a CT scan. There’s no brain bleed, there’s no tumor.”
Riley has to use a notebook everyday for simple tasks like remembering the location of her locker.
She also takes photos of her notes and sets an alarm for every two hours so she can go over what she has forgotten.
“My brother passed away last week and she probably has no idea. And we tell her every day but she has no idea about it,” Sarah added.
“I know it’s hard for them as much as it’s hard for me. And people just don’t understand. It`s like a movie,” Riley said. “Like I will have no recollection of (this interview) come supper time.”
Her parents are desperate to find a diagnosis for her condition, however, the doctors have not been able to medically find anything.
