On Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, signed a bill that legalizes temporary lemonade stands along with other stands selling nonalcoholic drinks that are run by minors on private property or in public parks. Abbott shared a video to Twitter announcing the news while holding his own glass of lemonade. He said,

“Here’s a common sense law. We had to pass it because police shut down a lemonade stand here in Texas. So kids… cheers.”

The Texas law comes as several lemonade stands run by kids across the country have been shut down because of complaints or a lack of licensure. Back In 2018, police in a Denver shut down a boy’s stand after he couldn’t present a permit following a complaint from a neighbor.

The new Texas law is expected to go in effect takes effect on September 1st.
