Less than three weeks after the trial of Amber Guyger and Botham Jean, another Texas cop has shot and killed a black woman in her home.
According to WSBTV, the white Fort Worth officer shot 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson in her home after a neighbor called about the front door being open. Police arrived at the home around 2:25 a.m. Saturday and believed Jefferson was a threat to them after noticing her standing by the window. The office then fires his weapon shortly afterward.
Authorities performed CPR on Jefferson but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer who fired the fatal shot is currently on administrative leave.
A weapon was reportedly found in Jefferson’s room but police did not indicate whether she was holding the weapon during the shooting. Additionally, the officer’s body cam footage revealed that he did not identify himself as a police officer.
The neighbor who called police, James Smith, explained that he was genuinely concerned about his neighbor’s wellbeing.
“I called my police department for a welfare check. No domestic violence, no arguing, nothing that they should have been concerned about as far as them coming with guns drawn to my neighbor’s house.

“I’m shaken. I’m mad. I’m upset. And I feel it’s partly my fault. If I had never dialed the police department, she’d still be alive.”
