After her very public divorce, Princess Diana swore to never again wear Chanel, and the reasoning behind it is sad.
For years, while in the royal family Princess Diana would wear outfits from the luxury fashion house, Chanel. However, following her very public marriage to Prince Charles coming to a sad end, she vowed to never wear the brand again.
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar U.K., Australian designer Jayson Brundson revealed her reasoning behind the big decision.
Brundson met Diana after her divorce in 1996 while she was in Australia.
“I was very good friends with Joh Bailey and Joh was appointed her hairdresser while she was here on the visit,” he said.
While getting ready to visit a local hospital, Diana didn’t know what to accessorize her outfit with. Luckily Brundson was there to help her complete her outfit.
“She went back to her bedroom and she came out holding like handfuls of shoes and bags and just dumped them all down on the couch. Then she said, ‘What do you think?’ So I went through them all and I found a pair of Chanel shoes, and I said, ‘Well these would look great with the Versace.’ And she said, ‘No, I can’t wear linked C’s, the double C’.”
Given that she was used to sporting the brands’ items, it came as a surprise when all of a sudden she didn’t want to wear anything associated with them. Brundson said that revealing the reason was heartbreaking;
“So I asked why, and she said, ‘It’s Camilla and Charles’. “It was definitely the timing, it being post-divorce. She would have seen linked C’s and they would have just reminded her of Charles and Camilla.
This was so soon after her divorce that he said photographers may have honed in on the connected “C” and associated it with the reason her marriage had ended.
Even in her death, there are still so many stories that have never been heard regarding not only how she died, but the relationship between Charles and Camilla.
