Timbaland Caught In ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Storm After 2011 Interview ‘Confession’ Resurfaces About Aaliyah
While Lifetime premiered the last part to its Surviving R. Kelly series, a 2011 interview with fellow musical genius Timbaland has resurfaced; and it’s roped the mega-producer into the conversation about an underaged Aaliyah.
In addition to working with R. Kelly, the late musician and actor wrote and sang alongside Timbaland, someone who also had a hand in creating her look and sound, and groomed her early professional music career.
So, in a clip from E! True Hollywood Story that’s recently resurfaced, Timbaland explains that he too “loved Aaliyah” upon meeting her ahead of her sophomore album, when she was 16 and he was 23.
Additionally, he states, “When I first met Aaliyah — it’s time for the world to hear this, I’m gonna give a little secret — I was in love with her. I said, ‘She [is] just a baby, I’m old. I’m just gonna be her brother. Oh man, I was fightin’, I was fightin’ a lot — a big war. But I loved Aaliyah.”
Also, he added that he married his younger wife, at the time, because she reminded him of Aaliyah, and remember her R. Kelly-written/produced track “Age Ain’t’ Nothing But A Number.”
Timbaland on seeing a woman, he knew he was going to make his wife, because she looked like Aaliyah.
