Not only does it comes as a shock to Hanks, although many people have pointed out the striking resemblance, but also because he ironically gets to play the late childhood star in the upcoming film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson appeared to learn of the news for the first time while speaking with Access Hollywood at a New York City screening of the upcoming film Monday.

Johannes Mefford, an Ancestry.com company representative told CBS that Hanks is sixth cousins with Rogers, and they share the same great-great-great-great-great grandfather. The company utilized its database of over 20 billion online historical records to form Hanks’ family tree, the representative shared.

Hanks and Wilson couldn’t believe the news:

“No, impossible! You’re pulling our leg,” Wilson said when Access Hollywood told the duo.

The highly anticipated film is set to premiere on November 22.
