A Taiwanese woman was arrested and fined in the Philippines after wearing a very thin bikini at an island resort.
The New York Post reports 26-year-old Lin Tzu Ting was walking on Boracay Beach with her boyfriend on Wednesday when hotel officials approached her for wearing the thin string bikini. Despite their warning, Ting wore the bathing suit again on Thursday and local residents began to record her walking with her boyfriend then alerted municipal police. Officers arrested and fined Ting with 2,500 Phillippine pesos($48) after ordering her to change into shorts and a T-shirt.
Boracay Inter-Agency Management and Rehabilitation Group chief Natividad Bernardino said in a statement that the woman refused to respect Filipino culture:
“We have our own cultural values as Filipinos and Asians. They should be able to respect that.”
Ting’s boyfriend told police that it “was quite normal for us in our country — and that was her way to express herself with confidence.’” However, Malay police chief Jess Baylon thought differently.
