After multiple failed attempts of biopic films featured on the network Lifetime, Olympic Gold medalist Simone Biles feels she wants to take a swing at executive producing her own biopic about her journey as a gymnast, and her life going through adoption.
The Simone Biles Story, which is currently just a working title, will be is based on the athlete’s biography, Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance, and will expose all of her sacrifices, and hard dedication that it took her to become one of the greatest and most celebrated athletes in the world.
According to Deadline, the made-for-TV movie, that is written by Kelly Fullerton, will follow Biles through her journey that lead her to win 19 Olympic, and World Championship medals, that have made her one of the greatest gymnasts of all-time.
Biles states that her journey from foster care to the Olympic podium is, “full of life experiences that will serve as an inspiration for every little girl with a dream.”
Moreover, Biles, 19, will discuss her biological parents as well as her adoptive parents and how they helped her get to where she is today. Her biological mother struggled with drug and alcohol problems, so Biles spent the first few years of her life in and out of foster care. However, at the age of 3, her grandparents, Nellie and Ron, stepped in to care for her along with her younger sister, Adria, before adopting the young girls.
Since then, Biles, who calls them ‘mom and dad,’ credits them for her career. She expressed,
“I’ve been brought up to never take anything for granted and to always be the best Simone, the best version of myself. From a very young age, they always believed in us and told us to believe in ourselves.”
Although Lifetime has failed at biopics, such as the ‘Aaliyah’ and Michael Jackson stories, Biles follows gold medal pal, Gabby Douglas, whose biopic, The Gabby Douglas Story, premiered on Lifetime in early 2014, and did really well.
Although Biles has not confirmed if her dream-actress, Zendaya will be the lead character, but The Simone Biles Story is set to premiere in early 2018 on Lifetime.
