Uh oh! Twitter’s at it again and this time, Erykah Badu’s on the chopping block!
Once something goes viral on Twitter, there’s no turning back and that’s exactly what happened with some disgruntled fan’s tweets after attending Erykah Badu’s Chicago concert Saturday. The singer’s set went from amazing to sour as she stopped to side with R. Kelly, the vocalist who’s been accused of several sexual assault allegations. But apparently, her fan’s weren’t having it because her comments received a loud outcry of piercing boos followed by disappointment.
Some of the concertgoers took to Twitter to get their feelings off of their chest and the tweets soon caught fire.
I really want to say how much i loved Erykah Badu’s concert tonight.
But i can’t get over how she tried to justify and defend R. Kelly’s actions and reputation during her set… I’m so disappointed…

The 47-year-old is notorious for her eclectic ways and unpopular opinions but this one seemed to strike a cord. In January of last year, she sparked the attention of many when she said she “saw something good in Hitler” in an interview with Vulture. She was asked about her trip to Israel and the press linking her with alleged anti-Semitic comments from Louis Farrakhan to which she responded:
“I’m not an anti-Semitic person,” she said. “I don’t even know what anti-Semitic was before I was called it. I’m a humanist. I see good in everybody. I saw something good in Hitler.”
But when the interviewer shot Badu a taken surprised eye, she quickly tried to clarify:
“He had a terrible childhood. That means that when I’m looking at my daughter, Mars. I could imagine her being in someone else’s home and being treated so poorly, and what that could spawn. I see things like that. I guess it’s just the Pisces in me.”
It seems that “just the Pisces” in her allowed her to see all sides of certain situations and she reportedly made that clear during her recent set.
“what if one of the people who was assaulted by R Kelly becomes an offender? we gonna crucify them too?” -erykah badu at her chicago concert

Badu is probably referencing a common case of abuse victims later becoming offenders because of what they went through. In the shocking and disturbing “Surviving R. Kelly” docu-series, it began with family members recounting the abuse Kelly said he went through and experts explaining the vicious cycles that often continue. All of this can be understandable but as Twitter usually does, they decided to “cancel” the singer.
It hurts me to say this but…
Erykah Badu is CANCELLED 😫
She’s an R.Kelly supporter 😭😭😭😭

I really don’t want to believe Erykah Badu is sacrificing her music legacy for R. Kelly. I don’t. everyone has their ignorance and places that deeply disappoint me, including my favorite artists (and myself), but supporting child predators is such a nefarious thing to do.

Badu recently posted many cryptic Instagram posts that fans assumed were about Kelly. According to The Independent, this was not Badu’s first ticket aboard the R. Kelly train because she seemed to confirm her referencing the allegations against him when she responded to a comment.
“I loved you until I realized you support a rapist and pedophile as your brother,” the user wrote on Badu’s post.
“Correction: Love has very little to do with supporting others’ bad choices. Love is wisdom,” Badu replied.
Badu has yet to address the backlash or the fact that she’s been trending on Twitter.
