A Georgia man has been arrested after he shot his girlfriend’s two-year-old daughter during an argument. Police say the dispute was over a car Tuesday evening.
According to WRDW, Marquis Gunter,29, and his 19-year-old girlfriend were arguing outside of their home when he kicked in the front door and started shooting. During the shooting, the toddler was fatally struck in the head by a stray bullet.She was transported to a local hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries. The couple also has an infant together but there were no reports confirming if their child was home during the shooting.
Police reported that Gunter has a previous molestation conviction and is not allowed to be near children despite living with two-year-old Ja’Ziah Pollard’s mother.
Sgt. Kimberly Lee confirmed the details in a statement:
“Gunter discharged a firearm multiple times, striking the vehicle, which caused substantial damage. After Ingram ran inside of the residence and closed and locked the door, Gunter kicked the door open and fired one time inside the residence from outside and struck Ja’Ziah Pollard in the head.”

The Augusta resident faces a murder charge, aggravated assault, second-degree criminal damage to property, and a weapons charge.
