More details have now been shared by CBS and CNN and it’s been confirmed that one person, the pilot who was the only on board, has died as a result of the crash. Reports stated that the Agusta A109E helicopter crashed about 1:45 p.m. ET on the roof of 787 7th Ave, a 54-story building located between West 51st and West 52nd streets, at the north end of Times Square

Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke to reporters at the scene and further explained,

“There was a helicopter that made a forced landing or an emergency landing … on the roof of the building for one reason or the other,” Cuomo said. “People in the building said they felt the building shake. In building itself, nobody has been hurt.”

Her added,

“If you’re a New Yorker, you have a level of PTSD from 9/11. And I remember that morning all too well. So as soon as you hear an aircraft hit a building, my mind goes where every New Yorker’s mind goes.”

The New York Fire Department tweeted that firefighters extinguished a blaze at the crash site. However, firefighters are expected to stay on the scene along with the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate the crash and determine its cause.

Donald Trump also took to Twitter to praise first responders for acting quickly. He tweeted,

“I have been briefed on the helicopter crash in New York City. Phenomenal job by our GREAT First Responders who are currently on the scene. THANK YOU for all you do 24/7/365! The Trump Administration stands ready should you need anything at all.”

At this time, the identity of the pilot is still unknown and no further details have been shared. We will continue to keep you updated on this news.
