UPDATE: Arrest Made In Death Of Witness In Amber Guyger Trial

This Tuesday, officials with the Dallas Police Department announced in a news conference that an arrest has been made in the death of Joshua Brown. As we previously reported, Brown was a key witness in the trial of Amber Guyger, the ex-Dallas cop who was recently convicted of murder after shooting neighbor Botham Jean in his own apartment “by mistake.” Guyger claimed she thought she was in her own apartment and that Jean was an intruder.

Brown was murdered on Oct. 4 outside of his apartment complex. The timing of Mr. Brown’s death immediately led to the public debating whether he was killed in retaliation for his testimony, or whether the trial, streamed live on the internet, had drawn dangerous attention to him. Despite that, KTVT reports that his death was a result of a drug deal that had gone wrong…

A man named Jacquerious Mitchell, 20, is currently in police custody and faces capital murder charges. Police are still pursuing 32-year-old Michael Mitchell and 22-year-old Thaddeous Green.

Assistant Chief Avery Moore said the trio came from Alexandria, Louisiana to purchase drugs from Joshua Brown. However, when they got to the location, “Green gets out of the vehicle, has a conversation with Joshua Brown which escalates into physical altercations.” Apparently, Jacquerious Mitchell told police when he got out of the vehicle, Brown demanded him to get back in his vehicle and shot him in the chest. Jacquerious Mitchell said while wounded in the vehicle, he heard two more gun shots. It was noted that Michael Mitchell was the driver.

Police say they were able to get a search warrant at Brown’s apartment where they claim they confiscated 12 pounds of marijuana, 143 grams of THC, cartridges and $4,000 in cash.

His murder happened just 10 days after Brown testified in the Guyger case and just two days after she was found guilty of the crime.
