UPDATE: Eighth-Grader Who Killed NYC Teen Finally Turns Himself In

The Yonkers eighth-grader who shot and killed an innocent teen walking to a store with her sister, has decided to turn himself in.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced the latest update in a tweet early Tuesday, saying,

“We got him!“ adding, “15 yr old Jasmir Thompson, wanted for shooting and killing innocent teen Marilyn Cotto Montanez, is in custody of the @YonkersPD.”

As we previously reported, Thompson, 15, intended the fateful bullet for a rival from whom he’d stolen a gold chain from — but unfortunately, he struck Montanez. Cops identified Thompson as the alleged shooter through surveillance footage and a series of witness interviews. After a few weeks of cops pleading for Thompson to turn himself, he finally did early Tuesday morning.

Elizabeth Zambrana, sister of victim Montanez told The Journal News/lohud today via Facebook: “I am so happy that he turned himself in. Thank God my sister can now RIP knowing that justice will be (served).”

Thompson has been charged with murder. His next court date is set for June 5. It was said that he plans to testify before the grand jury that will hear the case. If convicted of intentional murder, the 15-year-old would face between seven-and-a-half years to life and 15 years to life. An adult would face a minimum of 15 to life and a maximum of 25 to life.
