The Long Island man who left his daughter to die inside of a burning vehicle earlier this month is charged with murder.
The New York Post reports Martin Pereira,39, has been arrested on murder and arson charges after leaving his three-year-old daughter inside of a burning car on May 5. He was also charged with reckless endangerment. Prior to Zoey’s tragic death, Pereira was in a harsh custody battle with her mother Cherone Coleman and allegedly threatened to hurt Zoey in retaliation.
Coleman’s family said that Pereira told Coleman that she would “never see her daughter again” hours before Zoey was left inside of a burning Audi A6 that was locked with chained doors and doused in gasoline. Periera jumped out of the vehicle and suffered from second- and third- degree burns to 70 percent of his body.

Coleman’s sister told the Post that she hoped that Periera dies after hearing the news of her niece’s death. She added that he was acting irrationally after Coleman broke off their engagement.
“He was acting kind of crazy lately since the breakup. And with his behavior, it did cross my mind that he may do something to harm my sister. But it did not cross my mind that he would do anything to harm a child, my niece, his daughter.”
