UPDATE: Maleah Davis’ Remains Have Been Identified

As we previously reported last week, Derion Vence, stepfather of four-year-old Maleah Davis admitted to killing her and leaving her body somewhere in Arkansas. Police discovered a black bag on Friday with bone and blood remains amid the search, but did not confirm it was her at the time.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences shared with authorities that the remains have been positively identified as those of the little girl. Maleah was reported missing in early May by her mother’s former fiancé, Derion Vence. Initially he told police that Maleah had been abducted by a group of men.

Cops said Vence’s story didn’t really add up and so they began to investigate and later found signs of decay in his car and blood evidence in his apartment. Vence claims he killed her by accident. However, the cause and manner of her death are still pending, according to the forensic institute.

The mother, Brittany Bowens has not been charged for the disappearance or death of her daughter. However, many people believe she could have avoided this because she knew her daughter was in danger while being around Vence due to his abusive history.

Activist Quanell X confirmed last week that he would no longer represent Bowens because she hasn’t been “truthful” about this case.

We will continue to keep following this story and update you when more details have been shared.
