A group of UPS workers were arrested in the past two weeks for their participation in a decade-long drug smuggling scheme.

According to The Washington Post, four UPS employees and two supervisors and two drivers were arrested. 49-year-old Mario Barcelo is reported to be the leader. Police believe that Barcelo used his position as a dispatch supervisor to hide the origin and destination of multiple drug shipments. The shipments stretched from the southwest to the U.S. East Coast.

“He’s been able to provide this service to drug traffickers without being detected both internally and externally by law enforcement for years,” Sergeant William Kaderly said. “They’ve been doing it for so long that they were truly comfortable that they were never going to get caught.”

They reportedly began to smuggle marijuana before moving on to deadlier drugs and vape pens.

UPS released a statement saying that they were cooperating with the investigation, but were “not at liberty to discuss the details of the arrests as this is an ongoing investigation.”
