Valedictorian Calls Out Staff And Teacher For “Alcoholism” During Graduation

One valedictorian at San Ysidro High School took the stage at her graduation ceremony to do something a little different. Nataly Buhr took to the podium to call out what she saw as disappointing behavior from school staff.

Not only did she call out the administrative workers for failing to set a true example for herself and other students, she also called out a teacher for being drunk during class!

“Thanks for teaching me to fend for myself: You were always unavailable to my parents and I, despite appointments,” she addressed her counselor. “You expressed to me your joy in knowing that one of your students was valedictorian, when you had absolutely no role in my achievements.” She explained that they failed to inform her until the last minute about lucrative scholarships, which “potentially caused me to miss out on thousands of dollars.”

That wasn’t all. She went on to say,

“To the teacher that was regularly intoxicated during class this year, thank you for using yourself to teach these students about the dangers of alcoholism,” she said.

So how does the school feel about this? Well apparently, the school district had no comment. However, Buhr’s mom, Monica, was thrilled that she spoke out.

“I was proud that she spoke up and got it out,” the mom told KFMB. “It is something that takes a lot of courage to do.”
