IKEA and Virgil Abloh fans get ready to shop as their highly-anticipated collaboration is here!
The day of anticipation is finally here as IKEA is ready to roll out their collaboration with Off-White designer and director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear Virgil Abloh.
This collaboration has been years in the making with the final project consisting of 15 items all under the name MARKERAD which is a sweetish word meaning “clear-cut, crisp, pronounced.”
In the US, the collection dropped at 10 am with customers only being able to purchase one single item while in the UK shoppers have to get tickets to be able to even enter into the store on the first day.
In preparation for the release in the UK, the Wembley location changed the iconic IKEA logo to honor the designer adding quotation marks around “IKEA.”
When talking to Architectural Digest about this collab, Abloh said;
“I think what makes this [collaboration] unique is that it brings what I represent in the design community and in fashion or pop culture, and pairs that with a brand like IKEA, which is all about democratic design and easy accessibility. Almost everyone has or had a piece of IKEA furniture, which cannot be said for many other household goods manufacturers.:
Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA also released a statement about working with Alboh saying;
“Virgil takes modern design into a contemporary context. By interpreting history and tradition in his own unique way, he creates design which very much appeals to our time.”
