Vivica Fox Does Not Want Issa Rae’s ‘Set It Off’ Remake To Happen
Back in September, it was reported that Issa Rae was in the early development of remaking the 1996 movie “Set It Off,” which starred Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica Fox, and Kimberly Elise. It was also said that Rae was not only going to be producing the film under Issa Rae Productions with Syreeta Singleton and Nina Gloster writing the script, but the “Insecure” actress was also going to star in it!
While it seemed pretty exciting, some fans expressed that they did not want the remake to happen. “Set it Off” star, Vivica Fox, also weighed in on the remake while appearing on Entertainment Tonight, and let’s just say she’s also not feeling Issa’s attempt to remake the hit film.
Fox, 55, honestly said,
“It’s a classic, leave it alone. There’s absolutely no reason to try to redo it. It’s been done, and we did it so well, that people are absolutely going to compare it to that and I think that’s her taking on a tremendous chore because that film has become a cult classic and some things are just better left.” That wasn’t all. Fox added, “Like, create your own franchise,”
“If you want to do a new film of girls robbing banks, create your own thing. You can make it up to date. We did that film in 1996. We are in 2019, going into 2020. So, create your own thing because people are absolutely going to compare it to it, and she’ll probably, if it’s not good, they’re going to slay her for it.”
Issa Rae has not publicly spoken out on Fox’s reaction.
Aside from this, Fox also talked about her new film, Christmas Matchmakers, which airs Dec. 8 on ION.
“Christmas movies are just the best,” Fox said. “Everyone loves to sit around and put on their onesie or their ugly Christmas sweater and have some hot chocolate and they can watch ION network all day because this is my fifth film I’ve produced and starred in for them.”
