Their concerns began after Congress did not fund President Trump’s money to build a border between the U.S. and Mexico. While it seems like it Trump isn’t going to budge anytime soon, the House, which is now led by Democrats, actually passed legislation Thursday night to end the shutdown. However. the president could still veto it even if the Senate acts to approve it.

The stressful situation has affected many people. Around 800,000 federal workers are either furloughed or working without pay as a result of this standoff between Trump and Congress. It was also said that Americans would not receive a tax refund because of it.

The White House has a released a short statement saying despite a large part of the government being shut down, federal income tax refunds would indeed go out.

White House Office of Management and Budget, Russell Vought, declared, “Tax refunds will go out.”

The IRS has not yet announced a start date to the filing season. Last year, the IRS opened the filing season on January 29, 2018.
