A federal judge came down to the decision to either give James Alex Fields Jr. life in prison or a sentence less than that for killing anti-racism protester Heather Heyer and injuring more than two dozen others back in 2017 when he deliberately drove his car into the crowd demonstrating against a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was said that Fields apologized before the judge handed down his sentence, but clearly that meant nothing.

As we previously reported, Fields was hit with with 29 hate crime counts and one count of “racially motivated violent interference.” He did plead guilty to 29 of the counts. However, in exchange, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty.

In addition to this, he will be sentenced next month on separate state charges.
