Woman Arrested For Murder Of Pregnant Mother Trying To Protect Toddler
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested for the murder of a pregnant mother who died while holding her toddler’s hand.
WSBTV reports that Kiresa Cooper was arrested late Wednesday night and charged with aggravated assault and felony murder for the shooting death of Auriel Callaway.
As we reported Callaway was shot to death on Monday night after a stray bullet stemming from a fight at an Athens apartment hit her.
Apparently, a fight ensued and both parties began to fire shots at each other. Callaway, who was just a bystander, tried to protect her 3-year-old son when she was hit. She was six months pregnant.
“This reckless act of violence took the life of a young mother in her prime as well as her unborn child,” said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Cleveland Spruill. “Such senseless violence shall not be tolerated and all our investigative resources and tools were brought to bear to locate and apprehend the suspect.”
More updates will be available as they are released by the police.
