A Pennsylvania woman was turned on by her own husband after scamming thousands with a fake cancer diagnosis.

Jessica Cornell Smith, 32, was arrested on Monday after her husband told the police that his wife was lying about her cancer to raise more than $10,000 in donations for her non-existent medical bills.

“This is a disturbing situation where she preyed upon the good nature of other people,” Chester County Assistant Attorney Michael Noone said to KYW-TV.

Smith allegedly shared on social media about her battle with a rare form of colon cancer. She claimed she had medical expenses for travel, doctors visits and childcare.

“She was very vague about her diagnosis and treatment and really suggestive photos, like a selfie on the bathroom floor, ‘about to give up on life but also please donate to my GoFundMe,’” Smith’s friend said.

Smith also lied to her job to get time off.

Smith’ husband provided evidence showing that she was covered under his insurance and that her medical bills had not exceeded the $1,250 deductible.

Smith is currently out on bail and authorities are working to return the money.
