A Brazilian woman is sentenced to serve 25 years in prison for the murder of her teen son. Prosecutors say she murdered the boy for being gay.
According to OUT, Tatiana Ferreira Lozano Pereira was sentenced to 25 years and eight months in prison for the murder of her 17-year-old son, Itaberli Lozano. Prosecutors said during the court hearing that the teen came out to his mother in 2017 but the confession led to an argument between the pair. Lozano moved in with his grandmother shortly after but Pereira convinced him to come back home to work things out.
However, it was discovered by investigators that she hired two hitmen named Victor Roberto da Silva and Miller da Silva Barissa to kill her son once he returned home.
When Lozano came home, the two men started to assault him but refused to end his life. Pereira grabbed a knife and repeatedly stabbed her son multiple times then took his body to a cane field where she and her husband, Alex Pereira, set it on fire. His remains were found a week later and Tatiana claimed in court that her son “brought men home and used drugs.” She also stated she was not homophobic.

His uncle Dario Rosa said Lozano was “polite” and never had issue with anyone:
“He had a job, he was very polite, [and] he never quarreled with anyone. He only had problems with his mother, who did not accept that he was a homosexual”
