Woman Who Died Requests Her Healthy Pet Be Killed And Buried With Her
A Virginia woman who passed away left some instructions to have her healthy dog Emma euthanized so that she could be buried with her.
Workers at Chesterfield Animal Shelter who were looking after Emma had been trying to stop the executor of the woman’s estate from carrying out the illegal request.
WWBT reports that the shelter had been trying to get the executor to sign over ownership of the animal to them so that they could find her a new home.
“We did suggest they could sign the dog over on numerous occasions, because it’s a dog we could easily find a home for and re-home,” said Carrie Jones, manager of Chesterfield Animal Services. “Ultimately, they came back in on March 22nd and redeemed the dog.”
However, that didn’t happen as the person in charge of the estate person took the dog from them and to a vets’s office where she was sadly put down and then taken to a pet cremation center. The remains were then put in an urn and given to the woman’s estate for burial.
The shelter employees say that they were left heartbroken.
Typically, animal remains cannot be buried with their owners in most cemeteries as it is considered illegal.
