Woman Posed As A Social Worker To Steal Newborn Baby

Woman Posed As A Social Worker To Steal Newborn Baby

A California woman posed as a social worker and attempted to kidnap a newborn baby Friday morning.

KTLA reports that the attempted kidnapping occurred around 11:30 a.m. at a home in Santa Ana. Santa Ana Police Corporal Anthony Bertagna said during an interview that the woman told the mother she was sent to take the newborn baby boy into custody. When the mother refused to hand her son over to the suspect and asked for identification, the woman continued to make idle threats by telling her that a sheriff will come to the home.

“I told her if the sheriff comes and he has to arrest me, then he can arrest me. But I am not going to give you my child,”

The mother told the suspect that she will come with her to the office to handle the situation but the woman suddenly refused the offer as told by Bartenga:

“The mother said, ‘Fine, I’ll come with you.’ The social worker says, ‘I don’t have any room for you in my car, and then turns around and walks away quickly,”

The mother’s sisters took a video of the suspect exiting the property and took a photo of her white SUV. Police contacted social services to confirm the suspect’s identity but they were unaware of the case and the woman trying to take the baby into custody.
