Reportedly, a Facebook live video that has now gone viral, has people in an uproar. A 19-year-old young teen from the West Side of Chicago, who has been identified as Kenneka Jenkins, was found dead inside a walk-in freezer at a Rosemont hotel after partying there with friends.
According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Kenneka Jenkins was discovered after authorities performed an hours-long search, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
However, after authorities spoke with Jenkins’ mother, Tereasa Martin, they told her Jenkins apparently walked herself into the freezer while under the influence, and died inside.
According to Becky Schlikerman, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office. She explains, since the incident, an autopsy was conducted, but it is not immediately clear on whether anything obscene happened to her. The cause and manner of the teen’s death remained undetermined.
Moreover, since authorities spoke with Jenkin’s mother Martin, she stated the story she received about her daughter was that, her daughter’s friends lost track of Jenkins in the hotel and left after they were unable to find her.
After Jenkin’s family filed a missing person’s report, the Hotel staff was then able to start reviewing the surveillance video of the premises.
The police viewed some of the hotel video footage, and concluded that they did not see Jenkins pictured, but after one of the responding officers listened to the family’s argument, he agreed to view the video footage again.
This time in the footage, it allegedly showed Jenkin’s staggering, drunk near the front desk of the hotel. She then disappeared off camera, and supposedly walked into a construction area, and ultimately getting trapped in a walk-in freezer.
In addition, according to USA today news, when authorities questioned the friends’ that were there with her that night, they expressed that their “stories changed over and over, so they’re definitely in for suspect.”
Jenkin’s mother, Martin, also stated that she had a hard time believing that Jenkins got into the freezer on her own.
“If my daughter was drunk she would have had difficulty opening the heavy freezer doors. She would have realized the freezer doors weren’t the doors to an elevator or a hotel entrance. Those were double steel doors; she didn’t just pop them open.”
“If they had taken me seriously and checked right away, they could have found my daughter much sooner and she might have been alive.”
The teens in suspect have not yet been charged.
No further details have been reported at this time, but we will update back.
